Peripartum Physical Therapy
Postpartum Recovery
Pregnancy involves 9+ months of physical, hormonal, and emotional changes. How is this reversed in “6 weeks”? Our team of Postpartum Rehab and Recovery Specialists is here to help you bridge the gap.
During pregnancy & after delivery, women often experience a dysfunctional pelvic floor, including bladder leakage, increased frequency or urge to urinate, and vaginal/abdominal pressure. Our specialists are here to help.
A pelvic floor evaluation will consist of an external exam to assess posture, breathing mechanics and a strength assessment of the abdomen/hip musculature. An internal exam may be performed to assess the strength of the pelvic floor musculature.
Treatment may include education on nutritional changes to reduce bladder urgency, coordination of breathing to reduce intra-abdominal pressure with functional tasks, and progressive strengthening for return to activity, symptom free.
Low back pain, pelvic pressure, abdominal strain/discomfort, leaking, and other issues can be common as you return to activity or training postpartum, but this DOES NOT have to be your new normal. Our Postpartum Physical Therapy Specialists will create a customized treatment plan to help you return to full activity, pain and symptom free.
