PELVIC FLOOR PHYSICAL THERAPY
Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy is a specialized kind of physical therapy to relieve the symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction. This specialized treatment aims to restore mobility and movement, reduce pain, and help improve muscle function.
Pelvic Pain
Pelvic pain refers to pain felt in the pelvis, whether internally or externally. Pelvic pain often coincides with a sense of tightness, painful sex & difficult bowel/bladder habits. In conjunction with an external exam of the surrounding area, our pelvic health specialist can perform an internal exam to assess for tightness in the pelvic floor musculature.
Manual internal soft tissue release techniques will then be performed to reduce tightness and pain. Self stretching and relaxation techniques will also be taught for you to perform at home. Once pain is resolved, she will walk you through the proper proprioceptive and strengthening exercises for full return to function.
Postpartum Pelvic Floor Rehab
Following the events of pregnancy & delivery, women are often left with a dysfunctional pelvic floor. Common postpartum symptoms include bladder leakage, increased frequency or urge to urinate, and vaginal/abdominal pressure – these are all reasons to consult our pelvic health specialist.
A pelvic floor evaluation will consist of an external exam to assess posture, breathing mechanics and a general strength assessment of the abdomen/hip musculature. An internal exam may be performed to assess the strength of the pelvic floor musculature.
Treatment may include education on specific nutritional changes to reduce bladder urgency, coordination of breathing to reduce intra-abdominal pressure with functional tasks & progressive strengthening for return to activity, symptom free.

PRENATAL & POSTPARTUM PHYSICAL THERAPY
Every woman should see a postpartum physical therapy specialist after having a baby. Postpartum PT ensures safe healing during the immediate recovery phase, helps prevent dysfunction and promotes long-term wellness for mothers.
Postpartum Recovery
As much as we would love to think our bodies will simply “bounce back” after giving birth, this is not the case. Pregnancy takes 9+ months of physical, hormonal, and emotional change. So, how is this reversed in “6 weeks”...?
Postpartum Rehab and Recovery Specialist, Lauren Levko, PT, DPT, is here to help you bridge this gap.
Low back pain, pelvic pressure, abdominal strain/discomfort, leaking, and a number of other issues can be very common as you return to activity or training postpartum, but this DOES NOT have to be your new normal. Our Postpartum Physical Therapy Specialist will create a customized treatment plan to help you return to full activity - pain and symptom free.
Who Can Benefit?
Whether you are pregnant and interested in learning more about how to prepare your body for birth, would like to have a less painful pregnancy, want support in navigating the birthing world, are postpartum and experiencing symptoms of pain or dysfunction and are not sure what to do, or want the confidence to return to exercise safely after birth, Prenatal & Postpartum Physical Therapy is for you.
